New Year, new beginnings!

מאת נושאים כללי

September always brings the feeling of new beginnings to the yarn shops.  It’s just before the Jewish New Year, the season of new yarns, new patterns, and fresh new projects!

Teddy’s Wool  – NEW!

Babushka  is a new wool/acrylic mix, in solid and variegated colors, with good stitch definition. We made up a sample baby cardigan from it, and it gave excellent results when knit for a women’s sweater.

Teddy’s Alpaca, Smart Print and Smart Moda were a success last year, and it looks like they will be winners again this season, with all the new colors that came in. Your biggest problem will be to choose which colors to knit in!

Use the thinner Smart Print for sweaters, baby blankets, hats, all on a 5mm needle. Use the Smart Moda for afghans, ponchos and bulkier sweaters on an 8mm needle. This yarn is one of our shop’s favorites for knitters that want easy, quick and very impressive results. We have a baby blanket and a poncho made up from the Smart Moda, and a few baby and child sweaters made up from the Smart Print. Come in and see the samples, we’ll be glad to share our patterns with you!

Vitalgo

Alpaca was last year’s favorite, and it looks like it will be again. We have begun this season with a larger range of colors, and their soft shades of nature make you want to knit them all. We have 2 sweaters and some afghan samples knit up from this yarn for you to enjoy.

Schaefer Yarns

Shipments of Schaefer Yarns come in on a regular basis at The Gourmet Yarn Shop, and we just can’t keep our hands off them. Judith Alpaca is the softest yarn ever, Heather Wool/Silk blend is one of our favorites for one skein projects like scarves, hats, and gloves, and one skein of Anne will give you a beautiful pair of socks, a shoulder shrug or a scarf. We can’t end without mentioning Andrea, 100% silk in the most beautiful colors you can imagine. All of Schaefer’s Yarns are hand painted in the US, and each skein is a work of art on our shelf.

Laura Nelkin is responsible for their creative patterns, one of which is the Undulating Waves, a scarf incorporated with matching Japanese beads. We teach a class for making this beaded scarf, and other techniques, so visit our class page for more details.

Bumps are the latest rave, and they come in 8 natural wool/alpaca colors. We carry the matching knitting needles and crochet hooks for making the big stitch projects.

Frog Tree Yarns are a non profit company, and we are proud to help out in their mission. We carry their Alpaca and Cottons, both to be knit on 4 mm needles. Come in and see the cabled baby sweater we made as a store sample, we’ll be happy to share the pattern with you.

We are currently carrying 500 book titles on our shelves, and are known through all of Israel to have the largest selection of knitting and crochet books. We also have all the newest knitting magazines,  Vogue (Designer Knits), Interweave Knits, Knit Scene, Knit 1., Knit & Style, Creative Knitting, Verena, Debbie Bliss, Crochet Today, Interweave Crochet, Sandra, Sabrina, and special editions, which all come in regularly.

Our needle and accessory  selection is the biggest you’ll find, including the famous Japanese Clover needles and felting supplies, Brittany Birch needles from the US, HiyaHiya steel sets, Dennise Interchangeable sets, and several Rosewood and Bamboo gift sets. Susan Bates and Boye are among the brands we stock, and we’ll be happy to order anything from these companies that we don’t carry on a regular basis. And don’t forget Namaste knitting bags and Buddy Cases, and a variety knitting pouches for your needles and notions.

June Newsletter

מאת נושאים כללי

Writing a newsletter after visiting TNNA last week (It’s only the greatest knitting convention in the world!), is always so exciting. I have a problem deciding what to write about first.

So let’s begin with the yarns. The varieties there were endless, so here’s what we’re getting in,

Frog Tree Yarns is a non profit company, with beautiful wools and cotton all made by Artisans from South America. The owners of this company are a lovely couple on a mission of help.  Read their story and enjoy their truly wonderful yarns.

Schaefer Yarns have added some new patterns by Laura Nelkin to their collection and we’ll be getting them in, together with a new shipment of their Andrea Silk, Heather wool/silk blend, and Anne sock yarns. We also have a few skeins of Nicole and Helene on the way, a luxury for one skein projects.

The Bagsmith came out with a surprise yarn I hope you’ll like. You will need ONE SKEIN for the BIG NEEDLE PROJECT. All projects are done on humungous needles that we’re also getting in.  The Big Stitch Yarn is 70% Alpaca, 15% Merino Wool and 15% Nylon for that extra “give”. This Yarn is great for rugs, blankets and garments, and we will have the patterns for you to enjoy.

Farmhouse Yarns will be on our list of special yarns this year, as will The Alpaca Yarn Company. Check out their sites to get new ideas, and choose your favorite colors. The shipments haven’t left yet, so if there’s a special wish you have, I’ll be glad to fill it for you, just let me know.

Hand Painted Knitting Yarns have some Giant Skeins I thought you’d like. I had a hard time choosing from all their colors, which make up a fabulous shawl or poncho. The samples I saw at the show were breathtaking.

There are a few skeins of Cherry Tree Hill sock yarn. I brought in all their basic solid colors. If you’re into the sock craze, they are a must on your list.

I still have lots of surprises that I am keeping up my sleeve, but you must know that we’ll have the Denise Interchangeable needle kits many have asked for, and the special Chinese HIYA-HIYA Interchangeable needle kits for lace knitting.  We don’t have many of each, so please call and tell us if you’d like us to put them on hold for you when they arrive.

I’ll be teaching a new class when I get back, it’s the Undulating Scarf, designed  by Laura Nelkin, made with one skein of Heather by Schaefer Yarns. I’ll teach you how to add Japanese glass beads to your knitting (which we’ll also be carrying). It’s meant for the advanced knitter, so you can still catch up on your knitting skills before we begin.

Last but not least, I had a class with the famous Cat Bordhi. I can say that was the highlight of the convention for me. We made baby booties, which I’m ready to teach you.

And till I get back, have a great summer, and

Happy Knitting!!!!!!

Orly
